Apple has announced an updated iPod touch, available in standard black and a new white model, which will be available on October 12th. The base model 8GB iPod touch begins at $199, while the 32GB and 64GB models are $299 and $399 respectively. This “fifth-generation” iPod touch does not appear to have any physical design changes, nor does it seem to have any major hardware improvements.
Any new minor hardware changes will be announced as those details become available. The new iPod touch will support iOS 5, which launches October 12th, including features such as Newsstand, iMessage, a brand new Notification Center, and built-in Twitter integration.
